ABOUT THE PRODUCT
What is SealX
SealX is a professional-grade water-based polymer sealant coating. It's applied to the exterior surfaces of vehicles, boats, caravans and motorhomes to protect against UV damage, oxidation, water, salt, dirt and everyday wear. Unlike wax, it doesn't sit on top of the surface — it bonds to it, delivering long-lasting protection with a deep gloss finish.
Is SealX a ceramic coating?
No. SealX is a polymer coating — a different technology altogether. Ceramic coatings are hard and rigid which can be problematic on large surfaces like motorhomes and caravans that flex with temperature changes. SealX is flexible, moves with the surface, is faster to apply with no masking required, and can be topped up rather than stripped and reapplied.
Does SealX bead water like a ceramic coating?
No — and that's actually a good thing. Ceramic coatings create tight water beading which looks impressive but works against you in two ways. The beads act as tiny magnifying glasses that concentrate UV onto the clear coat beneath, causing etching and micro-damage over time, and when they evaporate they leave mineral deposits on the surface. In New Zealand's high UV environment this is a genuine problem, particularly on darker vehicles in direct sun. SealX sheets water off flat so neither issue occurs — your paint stays cleaner for longer and the surface underneath is better protected.
What surfaces can SealX be applied to?
SealX works on virtually any exterior surface — paint, fibreglass, gelcoat, glass, plastic trim, rubber seals, vinyl, metal and more. It's used on cars, motorhomes, caravans, boats, trucks, aircraft and buildings.
Is SealX safe to use?
Yes. SealX is water-based, non-toxic and requires no specialist protective equipment to apply. It contains no harsh solvents and is safe for the environment.
How long does SealX last?
This depends on the vehicle, surface condition and environment. On a new car with good paintwork, professionally applied SealX carries a 5-year warranty. On motorhomes and caravans the warranty ranges from 1–3 years depending on age and condition. Boats and yachts carry a 1-year warranty. All warranties are transferable to a new owner.
Does SealX change the appearance of my vehicle?
SealX enhances the gloss and depth of your paint without changing the colour. The surface will feel smoother and look shinier. The coating is invisible once applied.
Does SealX make surfaces easier to clean?
Yes — this is one of the most noticeable benefits. SealX creates a slick, non-stick surface that dirt, grime, bird droppings, insects and road soot simply don't bond to the way they do on unprotected paint. Water sheets off rather than sitting on the surface. After washing, you'll notice how quickly the vehicle dries and how little effort it takes to get it clean. Most SealX customers say washing their vehicle feels almost effortless compared to before. It also means you can go longer between washes without the surface looking tired.
Can SealX be applied over wax?
No. The surface must be wax-free before application. Our primer removes wax and contaminants to ensure the sealant bonds properly. If you've waxed recently, let your applicator know.
Does SealX work on faded or oxidised paint?
Yes — but faded surfaces require more preparation (cutting and polishing) before coating. This adds time and cost but the results can be dramatic. We'd always recommend an in-person assessment first.
APPLICATION
Can I apply SealX myself?
Yes. SealX is available to purchase direct for DIY application. The product is simple to apply — spray or wipe on, leave to bond, wipe off. That said, professional application includes full paint correction and prep work which makes a significant difference to the final result and warranty period.
How long does a professional application take?
A full application on a standard car takes 3–5 hours. A motorhome or caravan typically takes a full day depending on size and surface condition.
Do I need to mask off areas before application?
No — one of the key advantages of SealX over ceramic coatings is that no masking is required. The primer and sealant can be applied over rubber, glass and plastic without damage.
What preparation is needed before application?
The surface needs to be clean, wax-free and decontaminated. For new or near-new vehicles this is straightforward. For older or faded vehicles, paint correction (cutting and polishing) is needed first to restore the surface before coating.
WARRANTY & MAINTENANCE
What warranty does SealX come with?
All professionally applied SealX coatings come with a transferable warranty:
- New/near-new cars with good paint: 5 years
- Older or faded cars: 3 years
- New painted steel motorhomes: 3 years
- New fibreglass/gelcoat motorhomes or caravans: 2 years
- Older motorhomes or caravans: 1 year
- Boats and yachts: 1 year
Warranty is only valid when SealX-approved maintenance products are used.
Is the warranty transferable?
Yes. If you sell your vehicle, the remaining warranty transfers to the new owner — a genuine selling point.
What do I need to do to maintain my warranty?
Use SealX wash concentrate for all regular washing. Wax-based products will compromise the coating and void the warranty. An annual inspection by an accredited applicator is recommended and included in your warranty period.
How do I wash a SealX-coated vehicle?
Use SealX wash concentrate diluted in water. A little goes a long way — it's highly concentrated. Because the surface is so slick, dirt rinses off easily and drying time is minimal. Avoid wax-based car wash products as these can interfere with the coating.
Can SealX be topped up?
Yes — and this is one of its biggest advantages over ceramic coatings. When the coating needs refreshing, it can simply be reapplied without stripping or heavy preparation. Top-up coats are quicker and cheaper than the original application.
What happens if my coating gets scratched or damaged?
Minor scratches and wear can be addressed at your annual inspection. Deep scratches that cut through the paint require conventional repair before recoating.
PRICING & APPLICATORS
How much does a professional SealX application cost?
Pricing depends on vehicle size and surface condition. Use our pricing calculator for an instant estimate, or contact us for a personalised quote. As a rough guide, a standard car starts from around $800–$1,200 incl GST, and motorhomes and caravans range from $1,300 upward depending on size.

What's the difference between a DIY kit and a professional application?
A DIY kit gives you the product and instructions to apply it yourself. It's great for enthusiasts who already have polishing equipment. Professional application includes full paint correction, decontamination and prep — which makes a significant difference to the result, especially on older vehicles. Professional applications also carry a longer warranty.
