About SealX
SealX is a professional polymer sealant coating developed in Europe and distributed exclusively in New Zealand by Seal X Limited, based in Auckland.
The product has been protecting vehicles, motorhomes, caravans and boats across New Zealand for over a decade. It's not a wax or a ceramic — it's a penetrating polymer that bonds to the surface and stays there, delivering genuine long-term protection and a lasting gloss finish.
We distribute to a nationwide network of accredited applicators and supply direct to customers who want to maintain or reapply their own coating.
SealX has been protecting New Zealand motorhomes, caravans, boats and vehicles for over 15 years. We're a nationwide network of independent applicators, from Whangarei to Christchurch, all using the same water-based polymer coating.
Ryan Macartney took over SealX in 2026 after using the product in his own detailing business and seeing what it did. Today he runs the network, handles the Bay of Plenty himself, and supplies the growing number of people who prefer to apply it themselves.

How we got here
SealX has been going in New Zealand for over 15 years. Long enough that some of our applicators have been using the product in their own businesses for more than a decade.
Ryan Macartney wasn't looking to buy a business. He runs Metrosteam, a mobile detailing operation in Tauranga, and became a SealX applicator because he tried the product on his own vehicles and couldn't believe how well it worked.
He started running ads. Leads came in from all over the country — far more than one detailer in the Bay of Plenty could handle — so he began passing them on to applicators in other regions.
That turned into an education. He ended up talking to independent operators from Whangarei to Christchurch, none of them connected to each other, all still using SealX. Two of them had been at it for over ten years. These are tradies running their own businesses. They don't stay loyal to a product out of sentiment. They use it because it works and their customers come back happy.
Around the same time, SealX's founder Tom was starting to think about retiring — he had sailing and travelling in mind. He and Ryan got talking. After a few months of due diligence the conclusion was simple: if this product didn't deliver, these operators wouldn't have built their businesses around it.
Ryan took over SealX in 2026.
The part that surprised us
Something we didn't expect after taking over was how many people buy SealX to apply themselves. Not detailers — ordinary owners doing their own motorhome, caravan, boat or car in their own driveway.
And they keep coming back. When we ask why, the answer is the same every time: it actually works. That's about the best endorsement a product can get.
What we're doing now
The plan hasn't changed much: keep the product exactly as it is, look after the applicator network, and get SealX in front of more people who need it. We're growing the network into regions that don't have coverage yet, and building the systems — warranty registration, inspection reminders, easier ordering — that a business like this should have had years ago.
The coating is the same one those applicators have been using for over a decade.
