What is SealX and how does it work?

If you've ever spent good money on a vehicle and watched the paint slowly fade, oxidise and lose its shine, you'll know the frustration. UV damage, New Zealand's harsh sun, salt air, road grime — it all adds up. SealX was developed to stop that from happening.

But what actually is it, and how does it work? Here's the straight story.

WHAT IS SEALX?

SealX is a water-based polymer sealant coating — professional grade, non-toxic, and manufactured in the UK to exacting standards. It's been used in New Zealand for over 15 years on everything from daily drivers and motorhomes to commercial fishing boats, charter yachts and aircraft.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The application process has three stages:

1. Prepare. The surface is cleaned and decontaminated. On faded or oxidised vehicles, this includes cutting and polishing to restore the paint before coating. This prep stage is where most of the time goes — and it's what separates a professional result from a DIY one.

2. Prime. SealX Primer is applied to the entire exterior — paint, glass, rubber, plastic and all. It removes wax residue and any remaining contaminants, and prepares the surface for the sealant to bond properly.

3. Seal. SealX Sealant is applied over the primed surface. It forms a flexible, invisible protective layer that repels water, blocks UV, stops dirt adhering and protects against oxidation.

Once cured, water simply sheets off the surface. Dirt doesn't stick. Bird droppings, insects and road grime wipe away with almost no effort. And the paint underneath is shielded from UV — the main cause of fading and oxidation in NZ conditions.

WHY FLEXIBLE MATTERS

One of the most important properties of SealX is its flexibility. Paint — and especially fibreglass and gelcoat on motorhomes and caravans — expands and contracts with temperature changes. A rigid coating will eventually crack and delaminate as the surface moves beneath it.

SealX moves with the surface. That's why it holds up so well on large vehicles exposed to harsh conditions, and why it's particularly well suited to motorhomes, caravans and boats.

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?

On a new car with good paint, professionally applied SealX carries a 5-year warranty. On motorhomes and caravans, warranties range from 1–3 years depending on age and condition. And when it does need refreshing, a top-up coat is quick and affordable — no heavy prep, no stripping, no starting from scratch.
